I am a retired Epidemiologist in One Health (Animal, Plant and Human) Pandemic Epidemiology. I have been tracking the COVID-19 pandemic for over 2 years, monitoring websites and COVID-19 updates as well as working in the community conducting outdoor education in the schools. I live in Northern Mendocino County.
I applaud the work of Mendocino County Health Officer, Dr. Coren and his predecessor Dr. Doohan and well as Social Services Director, Bekkie Emery. They and the entire COVID Response Team have done an outstanding job conducting a very difficult emergency operation during the COVID-19 Health Emergency in Mendocino County. Their decisions and actions are exceptionally proactive while recognizing the tremendous diversity of our county population adopting Dr. Coren’s collaborative and inclusive strategy to clearly explain the reasoning behind the health orders, so the public have a thorough understand of how to stay as safe as possible.
In monitoring COVID-19 throughout the state and country, it is clear to me that our County’s communities have been among the safer and most protected in the state. COVID-19 has caused tragic losses here, but it would be much worse if not for Dr. Coren’s calm leadership along with the heroic decisions and actions of the response team and the Health Department management.
We are fortunate to have them all. Carla Thomas
