I support the 3f) Approval of Transmission of Letters of Support for SB 1074 (McGuire) and AB 2691 (Wood) (Sponsors: Supervisor Haschak and Supervisor Williams). Thank you, Marnie Birger
Dear Board Members,
While i personally have a hard time seeing how this will alleviate the pains of the industry, especially the small farmers who have given their lives to see legalization happen, I do believe that it at least is a step in the right direction in throwing a lifeline to the cultivators in the state. Cultivators face a major threat not only from the insane state and county taxes and fees, insane regulations, which are constantly changing, a crash of the industry, and then on top of it all, having retailers and distributors who do not pay the cultivator for product. While cultivators are the back bone of this industry, they get the worst end of the stick. And lots more than just a temporary pause on cultivation tax is needed in a big way. Hopefully we can get creative in figuring out how we can all do our part to allow for the industry to succeed and continue flourish. The county should also take a deep look at its actions and how it is stifling the industry. If I didn’t have a full day of meetings, I would call in and be a part of the live session. But unfortunately, I have too many meetings scheduled. I do however listen to all of meetings via the YouTube platform. Just know that even though we might not be present in the conversation, we stay on top of the conversation and do our best to stay involved. We share our thoughts with many organisations that speak on behalf of the community like MCA, and many others in the county. So please don’t think that just cause we aren’t present we don’t care or are not invoices. Cause we are. This is our livelihood and our reality.
Thank you for your time and for doing the hard work to find balance in all of this craziness.

Re: Item 3f on 4/5/2022 - Approval of Transmission of Letters of Support for SB 1074 (McGuire) and AB 2691 (Wood) (Sponsors: Supervisor Haschak and Supervisor Williams)

Honorable Supervisors,
MCA fully supports the recommended action for this item. These two bills, authored by our State representatives, thoroughly considers the political landscape and would provide significant support for our struggling local industry. We are all aware that many of the challenges we face here in Mendocino County can only be addressed at the State level, and these pieces of legislation are essential to move us in the right direction.
We encourage the Board to approve the transmission of these letters as soon as possible to put our full support as a County behind the efforts of Senator McGuire and Assemblymember Wood.
