4d) Discussion and Possible Action Including Creation of a Board of Supervisors Standing Committee Comprised of Supervisors McGourty and Haschak on the Topic of Economic Development

I would like to express my support of item 4d on today’s agenda. As a longtime resident of the county and an owner of multiple businesses, it is very concerning to me that so few resources have been committed to building a thriving economy in Mendocino County. The attached snapshot I have provided is from the report which is part of this agenda item. It shows a comparison of resources for economic development with surrounding counties. Mendocino County has fallen so far behind when it comes to investing in the future health of our part of the region. The request for a standing committee with Supervisor Haschak and Supervisor McGourty on the topic of economic development is the first step in charting a course. Also as a current board member of the non-profit West Business Development Center, I have seen first hand the efforts that are being made with the involvement of both local leadership and stakeholders alike. For a county with so few resources, this collaboration is the most prudent use of time and energy in moving towards a healthy and resilient economy. It is my hope that you will approve this standing committee and continue the official collaboration with WBDC.
