Due to our budget crisis, this proposal should be rejected. I support sensible raises for our County lone workers who actually try to improve our lives and provide government services but these elected officials do not need any raises in this time of fiscal crisis. They all ran knowing what the pay was and none of them are exactly underpaid at the moment. We simply can't afford this kind of unnecessary spending. I mean, the ridiculous and offensive VSO move was probably done for projected savings (and rent) of less than any of these raises. Approving this proposal is another slap in the face of County residents. I expect my County leaders to lead by example and the first place we should tighten our belts is at the top! So no to these unnecessary raises. From a business perspective, these raises make no sense because none of these elected officials has any negotiating leverage. They hold elected positions and can't just stich jobs to another county where they don't have a voter support base so we won't lose anyone by not increasing their already generous pay in a time of fiscal crisis and a huge general fund deficit. Moreover, several of these officials are nearing retirement so this will just bump up their final pay prior to retirement and we will be on the hook for the increased pension expenses for the rest of their lives when we already have escalating unfunded pension liabilities. A yes vote on this is basically a giveaway to these elected officials literally with the taxpayers getting nothing of value in return. Totally ridiculous and shameful, just like Darcie's proposed contract, but you all will probably just approve both without comment or explanation. Stop letting the tail wag the dog and show some leadership as we elected you to do so. Our County is a laughing stock and proposals like this are part of why that is the case.
