Dear Members of the Board of Supervisors,

I am writing to you as the Project Manager of The Round Valley Skatepark Project to request your support in acquiring land for the development of a skatepark in Covelo. Our project aims to create a safe, family-oriented, and all-inclusive space for skateboarding, promoting a healthy and active lifestyle within our community. This initiative has garnered significant local support and even aligns with the Community Foundation's vision for Mendocino County.

We are particularly interested in the possibility of building the skatepark at the Covelo Community Park on Airport Road. This location is ideal due to its accessibility and existing infrastructure, which can facilitate the construction and usage of the skatepark.

The Round Valley Skatepark Project has already made strides in fostering community unity and promoting positive outlets for our residents, particularly the youth. Through monthly Skate Nights and other events, we have demonstrated the need and enthusiasm for such a facility. Our efforts have been bolstered by the support of the Municipal Advisory Committee of Round Valley, The Lions Club and many dedicated volunteers who share our vision for a vibrant, healthy community.

We are aware that Supervisor John Haschak has added an agenda item for the upcoming meeting on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, to discuss the option of transferring land from Mendocino County to another entity for the purpose of establishing the skatepark. We are hopeful that this discussion will lead to a favorable outcome for our project.

Your support in this endeavor is crucial. By approving the transfer of land or identifying a suitable location within Covelo Community Park, you would be helping us provide a much-needed recreational facility that will benefit the entire community. The skatepark will serve as a hub for physical activity, social interaction, and community engagement, fostering a stronger and more cohesive Round Valley.

Thank you for considering our request. We look forward to the opportunity to further discuss how we can work together to bring this vision to life for the benefit of our community.

    Sincerely,

    Patricia Mera
