Hello, My name is Russell Green, I am a 3rd district resident and founder of Kure Wellness. I would like to bring your attention to SB 1059: Cannabis: local taxation: gross receipts, a bill that recently passed. Essentially what it says is that you can't tax a tax on cannabis retail like you have been for the greater part of 7 years. The excise tax accounts for 15% of the purchase price and so you have illegally overtaxed by an amount similar to that. I have complained to the county tax payers office stating many times that this was morally wrong, and was often met with a confrontational and dismissive or even rude attitude. Tax collector staff has even refused to take my return from time to time over demands that I submit my entire sales to simply deduct non-cannabis items like glass and apparel. I printed you out my entire sales quarter summary for years to comply with this. You literally taxed us for money that we simply collected and remitted to the state, and I want that money back, and a realistic tax rate going forward. I'd believe we brought this up at board meetings previously as well. The fact that this bill was passed means that the ttc was wrong and wrongheaded all along for approach to taxing this. Everyone knew that they were taxing a tax, and no one did anything about it other than give me a smug look.
Also, I need to clear some dead and dying trees around a cultivation site, I have some milling to do, and firewood I need. Shall I expect that my license will be at risk for clearing dead and dying trees and have my livelihood threatened by like has happened in the past with the cannabis department or are we over that?
Sad to hear a couple meetings ago that 150 cultivation licenses have surrendered because of the actual impossibility of making it through your “process” I am of the belief that these people deserved a livelihood and it was unlawfully taken from them. Would love to see a fix. We killed the 4 billion a year golden goose, at least let a few people feed their families with whats left.
I require that our elected leaders do better than they have in the past. The fact that you were all ok to vote to lock us in our homes with noemi doohan, on that 19th day of march 2020 was it? was a huge betrayal of the public trust. So sad it was that the sheriffs of all people had to stand up and say that was unconstitutional. At that meeting when you had all clearly rehearsed what was going to be said, at the pleasure of the state, you all voted party line and it is sickening and will take a long time to recover from, especially with all the data that has came out now and the forced vaccinations that turned out to not even be effective.
On a lighter note. The planning department managed to finally issue 5 year renewals on my cultivation licenses, so that is nice. There are some conditions on a compliance plan for one that I don’t really agree with but we’ll see if it actually becomes problematic or not. Fingers crossed.
