Greetings. My name is Tekla Broz and I live in Covelo. I support the Board passing a Letter of Opposition to the federal SAVE Act.
There are many reasons the Board should oppose this ridiculously voter suppressing Act, but the main one, from a fiscal point of view, is that it will cost the County thousands of dollars to implement. Here are some other reasons:
    1. The SAVE Act has already passed the House; it should be addressed primarily to California's senators.
    2. Tribal Citizens, indigenous people present on the continent before the current government, won't be able to use their Tribal ID as documentation of citizenship. Pretty Ironic huh?

    3. Military personnel won't be able to use their military ID as proof of citizenship. Does our military NOT know who is a citizen and who is not? If this is the case, that is a serious security breach.

    4. A passport will be legitimate documentation, however half of American don't have a passport. Poor people don't usually travel to foreign country for vacations, rich white people do. Can you see how this SAVE Act is structured?

    5. A Drivers License will not qualify, furthermore a Real ID will not qualify only an Enhanced Drivers License will and only Michigan, Minnesota, NY, Vermont and Washington State offer an Enhanced Drivers License! That is 5 States out of 50 offers a Drivers License that would qualify as proof of citizenship.

    6. Save Act will effectively kill Mail-in Voter Reg since one MUST present in-person proof of citizenship. Current On-Line Voter Reg systems must be totally re-built to meet the onerous requirements, dramatically increasing the costs to local Government. AND there is no money for implementation. 42 States have On-Line Voter Reg systems.

    7. The SAVE Act demands that States actively conduct ongoing voter purges including using data bases KNOWN to be faulty. Alabama purged voter rolls using the State Dept of Labor Data and found 93% of voters removed were US Citizens!

    8. The SAVE Act would punish an Election Official with up to 5 years in prison if they failed to obtain qualifying documentation of citizenship from an individual - even if it turned out that the voter was indeed a citizen! Furthermore, private citizens may sue the Election Official for a single instance of failure to obtain qualifying documentation. This alone will create chaos in our election systems and further the harassment of Elections Officials seen recently across the nation in this highly partisan divisive climate we are currently experiencing.

Please support a Letter of Opposition in order our Congressional Representatives position in opposing the passage of this terrible piece of legislation. Thank you for your work and attention.
