Please support this item. I find it thoughtful and sensitive to the needs of all residents of Mendocino County. Mr. Williams diligently sought input from Mendocino‘s Grassroots Institute (GRI) and Climate Action Mendocino in drafting this proposal. A diverse group of qualified community members residing across the County spent a great number of hours carefully considering each section of the proposal. I am a member of GRI’s Climate Action Workgroup and a board member of the charitable non-profit organization Meadow Farm Community Land Trust (MFCLT). Our land trust is located in Mr. Norvell’s 4th District just northeast of Fort Bragg. We offer community education in food security, disaster preparedness, organic gardening, food security, and sustainable living. We stand with all of you for a safe and resilient Mendocino County!!! Thank you.

As many others of our county I support the Ted Williams (my supervisor) proposal to amend the county's state and federal legislative platform to recognize and address the negative impacts of climate change on Mendocino County and to urge state and federal legislative action to provide resources to mitigate, remediate and adapt to the impacts and challenges climate change poses in our county. As well, it is stated in our investment policy of 2024 that social and environmental concerns are to be evaluated- signaling our county's collective wish to mitigate Climate Change and strengthen through a life economy rather then one based on the petro war machine.

Climate change is already having many negative effects on our county. Please support this proposal, and take any possible steps to mitigate climate change here. Also, please support regional and statewide efforts as well.

I wish to lend my support to the proposal to amend the County’s 2026 state and federal legislative platform to recognize the negative impacts of climate change on Mendocino County and urge legislative action to mitigate, remediate, and adapt to the impacts and challenges climate change poses to our county.

One concrete impact that may not yet be on your radar is the observed slowdown in forest growth rates over the past two decades -- even given a significant reduction in harvest levels -- as indicated by data collected by Cal Fire in the Jackson Demonstration State Forest. This is occurring even in forests that are not being logged, a strong indication that the trend can be attributed to climate change (resultingwarming and drying of forestlands as well as more favorable conditions for pests and disease). The problem is being detected across California, the nation, and even globally and stands to adversely impact the timber industry directly, as well as the indirectly due to economic activity in the in the forest products industry.

A chart that provides a more granular view of the trends has been sent to the BOS via email.

    Regards,
    ~ Evan Mills, Ph.D.

Dear Supervisors, I am asking that you vote yes on Supervisor Ted Williams' proposed changes to the Climate Change 2026 Legislative Platform. Despite the hostility to climate truths of the current administration in Washington, we here in Mendocino County know what's right. Let's not back down from the progress we are making in creating a liveable future for all inhabitants of our beloved Mendocino county and beyond. Let's take the long view in spite of any roadblocks that may result from taking a stand. Have courage please!

I'm a resident of Mendocino County and a member of the Climate Action Mendocino (CAM) group. Over four months early last year, CAM took a leadership role, planned and directed, with support and co-sponsorship from the City of Ukiah, a successful Electric Homes Tour in the City of Ukiah. 110 people registered for the tour, and follow-up surveys showed that local solar, battery, appliance and heat pump HVAC businesses increased their sales as a direct result. I say this because your board of supervisors took a leadership role TWO YEARS AGO, Dec. 19, 2023, when you adopted the county's Climate Declaration and Resolution and earmarked $2 million for actions to cut carbon emissions. You hired an excellent consulting firm, Willdan, to audit county buildings and provide you with a ranked set of actions that not only would cut emissions but cut costs and save taxpayer dollars by retrofitting county offices with LED lighting, greatly improving energy efficiency, upgrading the county vehicle fleet to electric and hybrid vehicles and installing EV charging stations. Yet the snail's pace of follow-through is, I believe, a disservice to your constituents and the consultant—and downright embarrassing. The county must SET AN EXAMPLE FOR CITIZENS by taking action to reduce its energy consumption, reduce emissions, and otherwise address climate initiatives listed in the legislative platform for your consideration of adoption. I don't agree with all the points made in the list, and I believe some of them may be redundant. Yet I ask you to thoughtfully edit and adopt the legislative platform on Tuesday, direct the county CEO to finish pronto the work started two years ago, to allocate another $2 million of the "found" millions for further climate mitigation and adaptation in accordance with the recommendations in the Willdan report, and to SET AN EXAMPLE FOR THE CITIZENS OF MENDOCINO COUNTY BY TAKING ACTION NOW.

I have read Supervisor Williams' proposed amendments to the 2026 Mendocino County Legislative Platform and support the changes he suggests. Earlier I had read the county’s draft legislative platform and was greatly sobered by the elimination of climate change language in favor of the current federal government’s denial of climate change.

Each day, whether personally or professionally, I face the impact of climate change. I lived through the flooding and atmospheric rivers of 2023, resulting in a precarious event on my property. Twin redwoods lost ground and fell across my driveway, catching the garage and bay window and gratefully missing the upper bedroom roof of my Fort Bragg residence. Climate change is putting Mendocino County residents at risk and must be addressed directly and honestly.

Supervisor Williams’ proposed section entitled Disaster Prevention, Recovery, Resiliency, and Mitigation is especially welcome. As a behavioral healthcare provider, every working day I face the anxiety of my patients related to climate change and natural disaster. If the county were to deny climate change in its proposed platform, that might trigger a further advance of hopelessness and despondency in residents of this county. Instead, we must be working on preparedness, training, and mitigation in addressing the climate change risks, thus providing hope to county residents that we can advocate for and meet our needs.

I wholeheartedly support Supervisor Williams proposed amendments and encourage the Board to adopt and integrate them into the county’s legislative platform.

Thank you for protecting this exquisitely beautiful and large county and all its residents.

    Dear Supervisors,
I ask that you support the Legislative Platform changes proposed by Supervisor Williams.

Local government actions to address climate change have many direct positive effects, including helping the Mendocino County economy to use energy more efficiently and reducing consumer costs. Including the proposed language will allow the County to respond more quickly to climate related opportunities when they arise.

Thank you for considering my comments.
    Respectfully,
    Mark Bowers

    Dear Supervisors:

I wholeheartedly support Supervisor Ted William’s proposal to amend the language to Climate Change in the County’s Legislative Platform. It is crucial that Mendocino County bolsters its resources to counter the negative impacts of climate change.

    —Climate Change is long term.
—The Trump Administration is short term.

Restoring climate change action to the county’s legislative platform is the right thing to do. Stripping climate change from the county’s legislative platform is short-sighted and would hurtful to your constituents, the County, and of course, the environment.

I urge the Board of Supervisors to stand up and be forthright, courageous leaders by supporting and working towards a healthy, socially viable future for those living and working in Mendocino County.

Climate Change disasters are having a devastating the people of Mendocino County. The science is clear, greenhouse gas emissions are warming the planet and producing catastrophic impacts in the form of wildfires, drought, sea level rise, erosion, flooding and crop loss. Not only are these impacts a threat to property, but they put lives at risk. Mendocino’s forests sequestered far more carbon emissions that its residents generate, yet we shoulder a disportioncate burden from the harm that global warming brings. We lack the resources to successfully remediate and adapt to the consequences of climate change without federal and state assistance. We did not create the pollution that has brought climate change disasters upon us. Multinational corporations are the biggest emitters of greenhouse gases, and government at the federal and state level must rebalance the scales by directing resources and action to address the consequences of climate change in Mendocino County. Now is the time for our County Board of Supervisors to make clear, we demand our state and federal representatives take action to insure Mendocino County has the resources and tools to assure a sustainable prosperous future. We should adopt the legislative platform proposed by Supervisor Williams.

Dear Supervisors, the County's Legislative Platform should include Supervisor Williams' proposal to assist our County in resilience and mitigation due to climate change, despite the uneducated and misguided demands of the current US administration. I agree that climate change is driven by environmental degradation from pollution and greenhouse gases, and Mendocino County is in the 95.1 national percentile of at risk areas for climate-related disasters. Please adopt Supervisor Williams' proposal to support state and federal funding for rural remediation. As supervisors, you should be listening to and making decisions for the benefit of, and based on, the will of the people of Mendocino County. Thank you, Dolly Riley
