Dear Supervisor Hasehak, Supervisor Williams and Planning Committee: I received an earlier email notice regarding Agenda R7 Short Term Rentals and submitted a pubic comment - but did not know until I saw the posted Agenda that R6 LOW INTENSITY CAMPING will be discussed. Why weren't we informed? Everyone knows that the proposals for Low Intensity Camping and HipCamps brought a ground swell of public comments last year, with the majority of folks voicing serious concerns.
Will you address the legitimate concerns of home owners? Where I live is not a commercial zone; it is not an agricultural zone; it is a neighborhood in a rural residential area.
Homeowner, like myself, should not be asked to burden the serious risks transients and campers pose to neighbors because a landowner wishes to make additional income.
Homeowners, like myself, should not be asked to burden these risks because HipCamp sees an opportunity to expand and increase its revenues.
--Who will stop people smoking in bone-dry grass?
--Who will protect us from a camp fire that gets out of control on an adjacent property?
--How will this impact my homeowners fire insurance coverage?
--What about our property values and ability to re-sell if we are next to a HipCamp site?
--What recourse do neighbors have who don't want to be next to a campsite?
--What happens to our limited water supply, traffic, density, sensitive habitat, our peace and quiet?
--Who will pay for the degradation on non-county maintained roads?
--Is it legal to have a commercial business in a residential neighborhood?
There are professional, serviced commercial campsites down the road on Highway 1. Low Intensity Camping should only be in commercial zones where there are services - not in residential areas. Please take the time and address these concerns. Thank you very much.
